How does your auction process work?
We engage with you and the team from the time we are booked to provide support right up until auction day. For a detailed understanding of what your booking includes please go to our 'Auctioneer Services' page or contact us directly for more information.
What does an auctioneer booking include?
Please visit our Auctioneer Services page for a breakdown of inclusions or contact us by phone and one of our representatives can step you through each item.
Can we request a specific auctioneer?
You're welcome to let us know your preferred auctioneer when you book. We'll do our best to accommodate your request, subject to availability.
Who will be there on auction day?
Your auctioneer will be allocated when your booking is confirmed. You are welcome to note a preferred auctioneer on your booking request and we will do our best to accommodate it, subject to availability. Whether you have a hand in choosing them or not, you can be confident that all of our auctioneers operate to The Auction Company's standard.
Will the auctioneer attend vendor meetings?
Yes, your auctioneer is available for vendor meetings by phone or video call. Please liaise with them directly to arrange a time.
When will the auctioneer arrive?
Your auctioneer should arrive at least 20 minutes before auction, unless alternative arrangements have been made.
Will the auctioneer help me negotiate?
All of our auctioneers are skilled in post auction negotiations. If you'd like support, simply let your auctioneer know beforehand so they can confirm availability and allow enough time to assist
Can I book an online auction?
Yes, we can facilitate an online auction for you. Simply indicate this requirement when booking (tick the relevant box on your booking form). Please note that additional fees apply for the setup and running of online auctions.
What does your fee structure look like?

How do I pay?
We'll issue an invoice with details for payment by bank transfer or credit card. Bank transfer details are included on your invoice.
Can you provide both an auctioneer and a campaign consultation?
While your auctioneer can provide general advice during your briefing calls, the time for this will be limited. If you'd like to upskill your team, we offer auction campaign training covering bidder qualification, vendor liaison, auction day processes and post-auction negotiation. See our training services page for more information on our programs.
Do I need to bring Auction Rules to the auction?
Victorian legislation requires that auction rules be on display for 30 minutes before the auction begins. While our auctioneers carry a set of auction rules, we recommend having your own on hand to help ensure timeframe compliance.
Will you wear our agency branding on the day?
By default, our auctioneers wear a dark suit and red tie in line with our company image.
I'm a vendor. Can I sell a property at auction using your services?
Yes. If you are working with a real estate agency, ask your selling agent if they have used us before — we work with most of the established Melbourne agencies. If you are selling your own home via 'For Sale by Owner', please indicate this on your booking request form.
What happens if I need to Cancel my auction or sell prior?
Our standard service terms require full fees to be paid if a cancellation occurs within 28 days of the booked auction date, for any reason — including selling prior to auction.
What happens if I need to reschedule my auction?
Simply contact our operations team at [email protected] or call us on 9834 6034 to let us know your requirements. We'll do our best to reschedule to a date and time that works for you, and we'll always try to keep the same auctioneer where possible. If that's not achievable, we may need to allocate a different auctioneer. Depending on the circumstances, a rebooking fee may apply. Get in touch with us to discuss.
What do Audio-Visual services include?
Refer to your service agreement otherwise get in touch via our contact form for more information.
How do I book Audio-Visual services for my auction?
Please indicate your AV requirements at the time of booking, so we can notify our AV team and ensure they have enough notice to resource your auction.
Can I add Audio-Visual services later?
Yes, though this is subject to availability. The more notice you can give us, the better — last-minute additions can't be guaranteed.
What deposit is payable at a residential auction?
Traditionally this is 10% of the purchase price. If you don't have the facility to pay the full 10% deposit on the day, a lower amount can be paid and the balance of the deposit on another day. Please seek approval and check with the sales representative directly before bidding. Tip: contact your bank to increase your transfer limits before auction day.
Is there a cooling-off period when I buy at auction?
No. Under the Sale of Land Act 1962, purchases at a publicly advertised auction are exempt from Victoria's 3-business-day cooling-off period. The exemption also covers a sale signed within 3 clear business days before or after the advertised auction date.
Is GST payable on a commercial property purchase?
The GST payable (not payable) on a commercial property is specific to each property and circumstance. Always seek your own independent advice from your tax specialist and check the contract's GST clause before bidding on commercial property.
Do you handle mortgagee and receiver sales?
Yes. Some of our team have extensive experience with conducting mortgagee-in-possession and receiver or liquidator auctions. Notify us of the situation and we can allocate one of our specialists.
How do you determine the starting bid?
Your auctioneer will work together with the sale representative, considering feedback from interested buyers and the vendor's reserve price, to determine a fair and reasonable start. Determining a starting bid cannot be made until all information has been collated towards the end of the campaign.
My question isn’t answered here. Who can I ask?
Please get in touch with us at [email protected] or call 9834 6034, and we'll be happy to help.
